Temvert Foundation to host UN ECOSOC Youth Forum side event on energy, education

Temvert Empowerment Foundation has announced that it will host a virtual side event at the 2026 ECOSOC Youth Forum, following approval from the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

The event, titled “Powering Education Equally: Energy Solutions for Girls and Boys,” is scheduled to hold on April 14, 2026, from 6:00pm to 7:30pm UK/Nigeria time, as part of activities lined up for the global forum, which runs from April 14 to 16, 2026.

According to the organisation, the side event will be held in partnership with the United Nations Major Group for Children and Youth and co sponsored by Children and Youth International.

Speaking on the upcoming engagement, the Executive Director of Temvert Empowerment Foundation, Temitayo Olatunde, said the event would explore the growing link between energy access and quality education, particularly in underserved communities.

He noted that the conversation had become increasingly important as many schools and learning spaces continue to face challenges associated with poor or unreliable electricity, limited digital access, and weak learning infrastructure.

“The event is designed to spotlight how sustainable energy solutions can support better learning environments and improve educational outcomes for girls and boys,” he said.

The organisation explained that the side event aligns with the major themes of the 2026 ECOSOC Youth Forum, which include SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).

Temvert Foundation said the event would provide a platform for stakeholders across the energy, education, and development sectors to discuss practical and partnership driven solutions to challenges affecting children and young people.

The panel session will feature Dr Patrick Agese, Chief Executive Officer of PAM Africa; Engr Kemi Ann-Melody Areola, Chief Executive Officer of Vivacity Development; Obasanjo Fejemirokun, Founder of Brace Up the Young Foundation; and Bolanle Oyediran, Executive Director of Wonderful Way CIC.

The session will be moderated by Shekinah Wonuola Ajayi, Policy and Advocacy Lead at Temvert Empowerment Foundation.

The organisation said the event forms part of its broader commitment to promoting practical interventions and policy conversations that improve opportunities for boys and girls across communities.
